Portland Bamboo Company was founded
in 2003 by brothers Christopher & Jason Franz.
Both believed in the importance of business offering sustainable options
for consumers. By working with bamboo they found a material that was
sustainable, durable and beautiful. "We wanted to build in a
responsible way for our environment, but we also wanted that construction
to lead to a beautiful result," says Chris Franz.
The two brothers incorporate arts and craft style joinery and designs
in their work. Jason says, "Many of the design and construction
aspects of Japanese culture are represented in the arts and crafts
style movement. We are lucky in Portland to have many beautiful homes
with architectural influences from this time period. We see it as
our job to bring out the lines of a home and surrounding area with
our work, to mirror and enhance the home and outdoor environment."
Materials are carefully chosen for each project based on their aesthetic
and longevity within the design. Chris says, "We work with many
different shapes in our materials, round to square, depending on the
home and the design. The greatest feeling is when you stand back and
look upon a finished project and feel that it is not only beautiful,
but also fits seamlessly into its environment."
