At
Portland Bamboo Company we believe in expressing
our social beliefs through economics. Therefore, we choose our building
materials based on sustainability, longevity and good labor conditions.
We work with the best bamboo available in the world to insure a long
lasting finished work for your enjoyment. We respect each building
material and seek to use good construction methods to insure each
material maximizes its building life. We are proud to work with Forest
Stewardship Council certified forester Peter Hayes of Hyla Woods and
FSC distributor Mike Barnes. Our vehicles run on Biodiesel - a domestic,
renewable fuel for diesel engines derived from natural, vegetable
oils. Wood
Portland Bamboo Company works with Hyla Woods of Oregon to provide
our customers with Forest Stewardship Council U.S. wood options for
their projects. Hyla Woods goes beyond the strict guidelines of the
FSC certification. Their stewardship increases bio-diversity, habitat
and the amount of trees upon their land, while providing a building
material for Oregonians. We also work with FSC provider Mike Barnes
of Cascadia Forest Goods, LLC. Bamboo
Bamboo is a naturally replenishing grass that can grow to a harvestable
height in three to four years, some species grow two feet per day.
It is one of the world's most renewable resources. Increasing both
the use and cultivation of bamboo helps to discourage the clear cutting
of our world's forests. Fencing Materials
Tam Vong Fence - solid pole fence, pretreated with borax.
Unlike a plank fence made of wood that will break down and spread
rot from board to board, tam vong fences are made up of hundreds of
virtually solid bamboo poles, each slightly separated. This fence
is very dense, each 8 foot section weighing well over a hundred pounds.
It is an earthy yellowish-gray color with one inch to one and a half
inch diameter poles. It is both dramatic and serene. This fence will
age beautifully and be with you for a long time. Pine
Brush Fence - Chinese pine brush intricately wired together.
This material's appeal is it's earthy quality, there's nothing like
it in our cityscape. It adds depth to any area. In combination with
bamboo it jumps to life. Tropical Semi-solid Bamboo Fence
- this fence is pretreated with sealant and has a vibrant
dark brown color that becomes even more striking when combined with
cedar. This is a slightly lighter bamboo with half inch to one inch
in diameter poles that have a very straight and clean appearance.
Chinese
Poles Tonkin Cane (Arundinaria Amabilis) these
poles come from Southeast China. They are thin walled, straight and
elegant. Moso (Ph. Heterocycla Pubescens) poles
are also from China, 2 to 6 inches in diameter, hard with pronounced
nodes, they make excellent arbors and accent pieces. They will fade
to a uniform tan with time. Outdoors they weather to driftwood grey.
Vietnamese Poles Tam Vong (Dendrocalamus
Strictus) virtually solid poles, can be nailed or screwed like wood,
and make an excellent building material. Tre Gai
(Bambusa Stenostachya) very thick walled, can be nailed or screwed
like wood, sanded and finished they are beautiful as posts or within
arbors and trellises. |
